چکیده

The teeth and oral epithelial surfaces are colonised by a great variety of bacte rial species. A partial list of indigenous (autochthonous) organisms found in the adult human mouth is shown in Table 11 (Gibbons and van Houte, 1975; Gibbons and van Houte, 1978; Rose bury, 1962; Socransky and Haffajee, 1988; van Houte, 1980). Characteristi cally, such indigenous bacteria are well adjusted to their environment and can successfully colonise the mouth for ap preciable periods of time or throughout life. Their relationship with the host is neither a purely mutually beneficial one (symbiosis) nor are oral bacteria obli gately pathogenic (antibiosis) (Rose bury, 1962).

Microbiological study of oral cavity of patients seeking dental treatments in Dhaka Metropolis, Bangladesh

Periodontal diseases are very common among the people of all ages and also a proof of oral hygiene maintenance practice. A variety of microorganisms are found in human oral cavity which can often cause periodontitis, cavities, gingivitis, mineralization of tooth and other oral diseases. Current study was carried out to determine which microbes are responsible for dental carries among the patien...

مقایسه کلونیزاسیون کاندیدا در حفره دهانی استفاده کنندگان از دندان مصنوعی متحرک و افراد با دندان‌های طبیعی: یک گزارش کوتاه

Background and Objective: Candida species are an important component of the resident microbial ecology of the oral cavity and are associated with various forms of oral candidosis when appropriate predisposing factors exist. Removable denture wearing is recognized as a predisposing factor for oral colonization by Candida species. The purpose of this study was to compare the colonization of ...

Correlation between DMFT index andoccurrence of Lactobacillus spp. in the oral cavity

The human oral cavity includes different bacterial community. Advantage anddisadvantage of these bacteria depend on their ability to adhere to the toothsurfaces. Some microbiota could cause oral disease, however, some of them inhibitformation of biofilm on teeth and therefore prevent dental caries. The present studywas undertaken to investigate on the DMFT index (D: decay, M: missing, F: fillin...

Antibiotics in Periodontal Therapy

Perforation of teeth through the continuous epithelial lining of the oral cavity is a singular anatomical situation. The dental surface consists of hard tissues that lack the potential to renew themselves and to shed their superficial layer. The microecologic system of the oral cavity is colonised by more than 400 different bacterial species (Moore and Moore, 1994). Approximately 150 or more di...

Human Oral Multi-species Biofilms: Bacterial Communities in Health and Disease

Possibly the first biofilm samples ever examined from a microbiological perspective were obtained from the oral cavity: Antonie van Leeuwenhoek’s tooth scrapings. Since that time, oral microbiologists have made major contributions to microbial taxonomy, physiology, and ecology. The oral cavity distinguishes itself from other environments by having over 700 phylotypes (taxonomic units), nearly h...
